Did you visit the farm this week? We were thrilled to have folks out to pick up food in person. The peppers were stealing the show, but there are plenty more coming our way. We had a number of canning boxes go out this week too (what great weather we had for canning). It was fun to invite folks to walk the fields and explore the farm. Did you like the in person voucher option, so that we could deduct credits from your account?
Our week off flew by, even though we intentionally did things to slow down. We had slow mornings, scheduled fewer crew members, only did maintenance things in the fields. We cooked fun dinners. We went hiking. We chatted with customers at the pop-up market. We went to the chiropractor and caught up on running errands. I picked flowers and roasted tomatoes and did the things I love to do on the farm when I have extra time. AND… most exciting, we got two new CATS….official names TBD, but Sammy and Oscar are our top picks as of today. Regardless, the week was full and flew by quickly. Here we are back to the daily grind, making sure to be ready for all those weekly deadlines…packing orders every Thursday and Friday, delivery every Friday, CSA pick-up and market every Saturday, and store reset and newsletter on Sunday.
As many of you folks shift into a new routine this time of year with school starting again, you may want to set alarms and reminders to help you get your order in before 8pm on Wednesday. Late summer and fall bring many of our favorites and we want to make sure you still get all the foods you love. Let’s cross our fingers that the squash bugs don’t do too much damage to our winter squash, as the delicata will mature soon enough. Watch for things like napa cabbage, a new batch of beans, freshly dug potatoes, and Asian greens this coming week.
A Few Things:
- IN SUMMARY: We took a week off from the normal routine, did fun things, relaxed, and got two new CATS! But, we are back at it with 8 deliveries left after this week and the late summer and fall crops are starting to show up.
- MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The final summer CSA delivery/pick-up is October24th and 25th. Get ready to sign up for our Winter program to extend your season through the end of February….coming soon.
- Napa Cabbage Salad: Folks often look at a napa cabbage with confusion, asking what to do with it. This cabbage is great because it can be cooked in stir-fry or soups, but is also tender enough for a simple raw salad, like this one. Or, get a little fancier and make a Chinese chicken napa salad. Here is a fun way to roast it as a yummy side dish.
- Arm Roast: Why these are not more popular, I don’t know. I like them better than chuck roasts and you cook them similarly. They are a shoulder cut and like low and slow cooking. This braising recipe is a nice way to cook a roast. They are on sale this week.

HACKS AND ORDERING TRICKS:
- If the product selection is not display in organized groups, you are likely in the “Previously Ordered” section. Scroll down to all products and it will be easier to navigate. You can always X out these items each week to keep this section manageable.
- If products have a locked sign on them, you likely need to change your pick-up location. Click on the lock to see where this item is available.
- If you cannot see products, contact the farm.
- As a member with credits, when you place your order, FarmMatch will tell you it is going to charge your credit card, because that is what it is programmed to do, as most farms are not issuing credits at the beginning of the season like we are. They are just selling outright to their customers. The program will apply your credits first, making your total due $0. So, your card will get charged $0 each week, up until you have used up all your credits.
