Week 15. If you haven’t seen signs of fall yet, I think this week sealed the deal. After yesterday’s rain, the lawn is scattered with signs of trees surrendering to the coming cold season. The brown leaves were knocked from the canopy, the gardens are starting to show yellowing leaves, and I am seeing more dead flower heads than blooming ones. Most of the tomato plants will be terminated this week, with only green fruit available on the CSA menu. We started pulling in the winter storage squash this week and will be curing it for the next 2 or 3 weeks.  We are finished seeding for the year and the greenhouse only holds a few trays of plants that will land in the hoophouse for winter.

As I age, and watch another season shift from thriving lush green, to the golden and amber colors of fall, and browns of winter, I get more and more sentimental about it each year. Will that be the last humming bird I see for the year? Life gets more and more precious the more special memories I attach to it and the more love filled relationships I build. As I watch friends and family that are older than me enter what could be one of their last winter seasons, I feel the significance of the seasons change so much more strongly. I appreciate moments of connection with the ones I love all that much more.

Some things for you to consider as we are going into our final 5 weeks of CSA… If you use your credits up early, no worries, you can still order and pay as you go. If you have credits to spend, time is running out. Ordering consistently for the next 5 weeks will be your best bet and be easier on our team.  AND….most exciting….WINTER CSA is open to sign-up. You have until Sept 25th to get in on the early bird sign-up incentive.

A Few Things:

  • IN SUMMARY: Winter is coming. Ohh that phrase will never be the same since Game of Thrones. Anyway, if you run out of credits, just pay as you go for the rest of the season. Remember to love the ones you’re with. Each season can remind us that life, love, and relationships are sacred and more fleeting than we realize.
  • MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The final summer CSA delivery/pick-up is October24th and 25th.  Get ready to sign up for our Winter program to extend your season through the end of February….coming soon.
  • WINTER CSA: The winter program is ready for you to sign-up. Get in by Sept 25th to get bonus credits as an early sign-up incentive.
  • PLEIN AIR PAINTING AT THE FARM: We will be hosting “Paint the Farm…any color you want” on September 28th, at 2pm.  What a great way to celebrate the beauty that is still on the farm and visit the place that is growing so much of your fresh food this year. HACKS AND ORDERING TRICKS:

  • If the product selection is not display in organized groups, you are likely in the “Previously Ordered” section. Scroll down to all products and it will be easier to navigate. You can always X out these items each week to keep this section manageable.
  • If products have a locked sign on them, you likely need to change your pick-up location. Click on the lock to see where this item is available.
  • If you cannot see products, contact the farm.
  • As a member with credits, when you place your order, FarmMatch will tell you it is going to charge your credit card, because that is what it is programmed to do, as most farms are not issuing credits at the beginning of the season like we are. They are just selling outright to their customers. The program will apply your credits first, making your total due $0. So, your card will get charged $0 each week, up until you have used up all your credits.
