Hello,
Welcome to week 5. Many Americans will spend this week with friends and family filling their bellies with indulgent foods, celebrating and acknowledging all the ways they feel thankful. We wish everyone gathering in these festivities a safe and joyous time. However you spend this week, know that we are thankful for you. Our farm and this community we are working to build means the world to us. You sustain us, making it so we can be a consistent local food source in this area. Thank you.
As I write this letter in the cozy comfort of my office, the wind howls angrily outside, rattling all of the plastic covered hoop buildings and the doors of the barn. The back of my mind wonders if I bundled up my hoophouse plants safe enough to survive the upcoming cold spell. I texted with my mentor, Michelle, this week asking for advice on keeping my winter greens safe and happy. She joyfully assured me they will likely be fine, sending along tips and ideas on how to help them thrive. One of my goals for this year was to get better at winter growing and increase our greens offerings for November and December. So far in November, we are ahead of last year, especially on salad mix and tatsoi. I am now adding the hope of offering spinach, at least once, in January and February. Keep your fingers crossed.
One of the things that warms my heart about organic veggie farming in Wisconsin is the generous sharing of knowledge growers offer one another. Competitors cheer one another on. How cool is that? What would our world look like if that was the norm in more places? For now, I count my blessings for the many farmers that helped and continue to help farmer Tim and I make our way.
As the winter holiday season begins, we wish you joy, safety, and abundance…and of course, eat well.
A Few Things:
- IN SUMMARY: Can we actually have a slow time, or will we constantly have a perpetually filled to-do list? What things aren’t serving us on that list? Can that busy feeling be shifted with a change of perspective? Get ready for more winter variety. Tell your friends about the Pop-up sale this week.
- TURKEY AND STUFFING QUICHE: If you are one of the many folks that will have leftover turkey and stuffing soon, this can be a fun way to use it.
- HUNGARIAN GOULASH: Best beef stew ever. Give it a try, and trust me you do want that much paprika. This is a great way to use our chuck steaks.
- MARK YOUR CALENDAR: For you planners out there, NO DELIVERY: December 23rd and 24th.

HACKS AND ORDERING TRICKS:
- If the product selection is not showing in organized groups, you are likely in the “Previously Ordered” section. Scroll down to all products and it will be easier to navigate. You can always X out these items each week to keep this section manageable.
- If products have a locked sign on them, you likely need to change your pick-up location. Click on the lock to see where this item is available.
- If you cannot see products, contact the farm.
- As a member with credits, when you place your order, FarmMatch will tell you it is going to charge your credit card, because that is what it is programmed to do, as most farms are not issuing credits at the beginning of the season like we are. They are just selling outright to their customers. The program will apply your credits first, making your total due $0. So, your card will get charged $0 each week, up until you have used up all your credits.
